Structure

Built to Survive the Freeze-Thaw Cycle

Concrete stairs fail when water gets trapped, rebar is poorly placed or the mix is too weak for exterior exposure. Prestigia controls the base, drainage, reinforcement and sealer so the entrance is built as a durable structure, not a cosmetic patch.

32 MPa exterior concrete

A high-durability air-entrained mix selected for Outaouais freeze-thaw cycles.

Foundation prep and drainage

Excavation, compacted stone and slopes are planned to move water away from the home.

Heavy-duty reinforcement

Rebar is placed and tied to reduce cracking, shifting and settlement.

Salt-resistant sealing

A protective finish helps control water absorption, road salt and ice melt damage.

Options

Tailored Finishes for Your Home's Aesthetic

Front-entry concrete can stay quietly classic or become a sharp architectural signature.

Broom finish

Classic, slip-resistant and cost-effective for high-traffic steps.

Stamped concrete

Stone or brick textures for a more elevated front entrance.

Architectural edges

Bullnose, cantilevered or crisp custom profiles for a modern step line.

Process

Our 4-Step Installation Process

  1. 01 Excavation & Base Prep The old structure and unstable materials are removed before the base is rebuilt.
  2. 02 Custom Forming & Reinforcement Forms are built to the exact entrance geometry, then rebar is tied before the pour.
  3. 03 Pouring & Finishing Concrete is placed, leveled and finished according to the chosen surface.
  4. 04 Curing & Sealing The surface is protected through the cure and sealed when timing is right.

Riser height and tread depth are planned before concrete day.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions About Concrete Stairs

Do I need a municipal permit to replace my front stairs in Gatineau?

Permit requirements can vary by height, location, guardrails and related work. The applicable Gatineau by-law should be checked for your address before work begins.

How long does it take to build and cure concrete steps?

Prep and pouring often take a few working days depending on demolition, access and weather. Concrete continues curing afterward, with 28 days used as the standard strength reference.

Can you pour concrete stairs over my existing brick steps?

It is rarely recommended. Old masonry traps water, moves during freeze-thaw cycles and can transfer those failures into the new concrete.

When is the best time of year to pour exterior concrete in Quebec?

The best windows avoid freezing temperatures, extreme heat and heavy rain. Spring, summer and early fall usually give the most reliable curing conditions.
